Gabriela M

I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. Since 2012 I've been running my own full time studio.

I began playing music in 2014, starting with recorder and violin. Since then I have sung in choirs and picked up some other instruments. I have played and performed in school ensembles and small groups.

I have helped in teaching environments since 2017 as a teaching assistant and camp counselor, and have been teaching music students since 2021 both one on one and in group classes.

I have been playing guitar since 2016 and orchestral contrabass since 2022. I started working in group settings in 2022 when I joined my school orchestra and a rock band. Over the years, I have also had experience with bass guitar. I began working for various summer camps, music related and not, in 2023. I have experience with kids from second to eighth grade.

I’ve been playing independently and  in ensembles since 2018. I initially started learning music on the trumpet, but over time I’ve come to study other instruments as well. Currently bass guitar is my primary focus, but I still play trumpet on a regular basis. Drums and guitar have also been some more recent highlights in my instrumental studies.

I’ve been mentoring, teaching, and facilitating activities since 2022. I’ve worked in a variety of settings like working with boy scout groups, teaching private lessons, and also assisting with small ensembles.

I started playing the saxophone in 2022 in wind ensembles. I began playing jazz in 2023 when I started focusing on that type of repertoire in 1-on-1 lessons. I have arranged several songs and written a couple too. I have also been in several small groups that I performed with at school concerts. In addition, I have done the Stanford Jazz Workshop Summer Camp, where I learned from world class jazz musicians.

I have volunteered multiple times for Sunnyvale summer camps, where I gained experience working with kids aged 5-12, starting in 2024. Beginning in 2025, I started teaching music in 1-on-1, small ensemble, and music camp settings. Though I started on saxophone, I’ve come to work with students on a variety of instruments.
